How we got to where we are today.

Early Ventures & Lessons

By 2005, Scott Duke had founded and operated five small companies in Ontario, Canada. By 2010 each business had shut its doors.

The most painful closure was Basecamp, a company Scott and his team had built into the world’s largest wakeboard facility, with four locations and over 30 staff.

Basecamp and Scott’s other early ventures would all be running today if he had known at the time how to build transferability into companies.

A New Approach

Nearly bankrupt from the shutdowns, in 2011 Scott purchased a hot dog cart (Duke’s Dogs) and ran it for 18 months to get back on his feet.

Scott used the profits from Duke’s Dogs to found a radio station Stoke FM and used the profits from the radio station to purchase a property management company – Revelstoke Property Services.

“My singular focus at the time was learning how to build a business that was robust enough to survive beyond the founder.”

In 2014, Scott transitioned Stoke FM to the board of directors and in 2018 sold Revelstoke Property Services to a private equity firm in the US – Western Trust.

Moving Into M&A

Scott sold his first client-owned business in 2014; an Italian restaurant run by a husband and wife team who had failed selling for three years with other brokers.

While continuing to run Revelstoke Property Services, in his free time Scott sold a movie theatre, print shop, spa, bakery, and burger shack.

“I loved helping owners extract he value they had created in their businesses and particularly enjoy transferring the entrepreneurial spark from one generation to the next.”

After the thrill of the first few business sales, Scott formally decided to make M&A his lifelong career and founded OpnRoad. To better serve his clients, Scott dove deep into continued education in the space.

Scott Duke

Founder & Lead Advisor

Scott has worked with hundreds of owners to help maximize the value of their businesses. Beyond leading our team at OpnRoad, he is responsible for the valuation, advisory, and negotiation for our M&A transactions.

Scott is an active board member of the International Business Brokers Association ® and regularly educates 250+ Realtors through the British Columbia Real Estate Association ®. He also serves as the VP of Sales for Capitaliz – a fast-growing SaaS company servicing the global exit planning industry.

Some of Scott’s past experiences include:

  • Purchased and scaled Revelstoke Property Services 10x with Eve Duke, and sold to a private equity firm in 2018
  • Founded StokeFM radio station in 2011
  • Served on Revelstoke City Council for 4 years

Outside of work, Scott enjoys a good surf trip down south and fresh power days in the alpine in Revelstoke, BC.

Sam Hinchey

Operations Manager

Sam is primarily responsible for the smooth operations of our M&A firm. She works effectively with our clients to gather financial and legal documentation while also managing OpnRoad’s day-to-day finance and administrative tasks.

Sam unifies our team and ensures the highest level of customer service through her past experience as a Sales Consultant at Ford-Lincoln. She brings experience and skills from her past position as a Land Analyst working closely with confidential information and private companies in building long term relationships.

Some of Sam’s past experiences include:

  • Diploma from NBCC in Medical Office Management & Administration
  • In the industry of customer services for 17 years
  • Sales consultant for 6 years in retail and automotive

Outside of work, Sam enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking, skiing, and camping. She works closely with a woman’s community to achieve health and wellness awareness.

Maxim Vidricaire

Marketing Director

Maxim uses a data-driven approach to our  North American marketing funnel. He balances creative thinking with his extensive relationship management and financial analysis experience to drive value to both our M&A clients and our authentic OpnRoad brand.

Maxim understands the brands he works with because he understands people: both consumers and business owners. He brings years of relationship management experience in both financial and creative industries, having worked with global brands such as Google, Lululemon, Patagonia, and many more.

Some of Maxim’s past experiences include:

  • 3 years of Senior Account Management experience at TD Bank’s National Real Estate Group
  • Served 4+ years as Creative Director for an organic lavender farm in Quebec
  • Completed an exchange program at Peking University in Beijing, China

Outside of work, Maxim enjoys a solid day of ski touring and shooting a fresh roll of 35mm film.

Matthew Fluet

Lead Analyst

Matthew is responsible for ensuring accurate and detailed market valuations for our clients. He takes ownership over our valuation models and works closely with our M&A advisory team.

Matthew recently graduated from SetonHill University located in Pennsylvania where he competed in high level lacrosse.

He completed a BS in Data Analytics and is currently working towards his MBA with a specialization in Business Analytics.

Abby works within our partner company, Capitaliz, to run international campaigns for a fast-growing  business succession and exit planning SaaS product.

Owner Relations

Eve works closely with owners and stakeholders to clarify transitional goals. She specializes in team culture analysis and personality profiling workshops to improve staff retention, happiness, and productivity for our clients.

As an organizational psychologist, Certified Coach Practitioner (CCF), 3x Founder with 2x successful business transitions, Eve works with leaders to better understand themselves, their personal goals, their culture, and the people they work with – especially for leaders who are looking to grow their business with the goal of selling it.

Some of Eve’s past experiences include:

  • Purchased and scaled Revelstoke Property Services 10x with Scott, and sold to a private equity firm in 2018
  • Founded Selkirk Performance – a boutique business advisory firm offering psychological profiling workshops, culture analysis and development, and 1-on-1 leadership coaching
  • Established the Women’s Snowboard Federation in 2006

In 2014 I purchased every book Amazon sells on business sales and spent 44 days in a row getting up a 4:00 am, reading a book, and filming a YouTube review of the content before heading to work.
